Welcome to Episode 35 of the YarnderWoman Podcast, filmed in Perth, Western Australia, on Saturday 2 January 2016.
I have so much to talk about today that the episode is split into two parts:
Part 1 of 2:
Part 2 of 2:
Brooching the Subject:
- Bat & Moon brooch from Creep Heart
- Lipsticks from Lime Crime
Finished Objects:
--See my Ravelry page for specifics--

Works in Progress:
- 'The Doodler' shawl, which was my first cast-on of the new year.
- Blanket squares. Inspired by Jennie of Tiny Paper Foxes to do one square each day before work. Dinosaur stitch marker from Vintage Rose.
- Plans to sew my niece a basic skirt and get a plain t-shirt to do a matching pocket. I'll also give her my completed 'View from the Charles' shawl, to make a whole outfit.
- Plans for a Handbrake cowl for my SIL’s father
Knit-along:
- Our Colo(u)r Affection/Striped Shawl KAL is running from 1 January to 31 March 2016.
- Knit as many stripey shawls as you like
- Chat in this thread and post finished objects in this thread
- Use hashtag #YWStripedShawlKAL16
- We will hold a year-long Charity KAL/CAL - see this Ravelry thread for details
Goals:
- 2015 goals: I think my list was too comprehensive/too involved. I didn't really refer to it and when I did, it felt like a burden/obligation.
- Project stats for 2015: 70 projects (includes one tube sock, waiting for its sibling); 26 shawls/cowls (including children’s sizes); 11 pairs of socks; 42 gifts; 6 charity projects (3x hats, 2x washcloths, 1x toy); 19 items for me; 3 items not yet spoken for (will become either gifts or go to charity: 3x Knit Night shawls – 2 children sized).
- 2016 goals: Simplified, specific, measurable, attainable
- 2016 is the year of the Monkey in the Chinese astrological calendar and year of the Lizard in the Indigenous Australian calendar.
Acquisitions:
- Flutterby Dreams pattern won in Down Cellar Studio contest
- Gift patterns of 'White Sandy Beach' socks and 'Twisted Sand Mitts' from Lucia of the Knitted Paradise podcast
- Alinta pattern (designer Ambah) gifted to me by Jill of the Skein Enable podcast
- Canopy pattern from Jennie
- Lots of lovely things for Xmas
Spinning Me Right ‘Round:
- Nut roast recipe (that I served on Xmas day)
- I finished listening to all the back episodes of the Yarns at Yin Hoo podcast
- We loved the new Star Wars movie! (And I am now slightly obsessed with BB8.
- I've started listening to the book “Herland” on the Craft Lit podcast
- I plan to re-listen to “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin and perhaps start one of my own for 2016? Will report back next time.
A question for viewers:
Tell me about your knitting goal(s) for 2016. Come and chat in the Ravelry thread for this episode.
